F1 Betting: USA Grand Prix Preview

F1 Betting: USA Grand Prix

Fans of motor sports – strap yourselves in. It’s time for our F1 betting: USA Grand Prix preview as another memorable season winds down.

This weekend, F1 fans will be treated to the US Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The race comes on the heels of the Japanese Grand Prix, which saw Max Verstappen clinch his second straight championship title.

F1 BETTING

Unfortunately for Verstappen, his achievement has been somewhat overshadowed by a report that found Red Bull in breach of a $145 million budget cap in 2021. It was the first year that the FIA instated the Financial Regulations, and while Aston Martin and Williams had committed procedural errors, Red Bull committed both a procedural error and minor overspend breach. The FIA has reached out to Red Bull with an Accepted Breach Agreement offer, and we’ve yet to see how Red Bull will respond.

None of that will have an impact on Sunday’s race, though. F1 bettors should be aware that in the days leading up to the US GP, Charles Leclerc was served with a five-place grid penalty due to Ferrari using a sixth engine during the US Grand Prix, which they want to test for use in the upcoming 2023 season.

Max Verstappen -275

Now that Verstappen has clinched his second straight championship, will he be as motivated when lining up on the grid at the US GP? He won last year’s US GP and has won 12 of the 18 F1 races he’s competed in thus far this season, and that includes having to retire in the first race of the season due to engine failure. He has been unstoppable in most races this year, but encountered some challenges at the Singapore GP, which saw him finish seventh.

Lewis Hamilton +700

After dominating the F1 scene for roughly 12 years and tying Michael Schumacher for the most titles won by a driver (7), British driver Lewis Hamilton stepped back just as Verstappen moved up. His drop in performance coincides with a less-than-perfect Mercedes car that suffered when it incorporated the new design regulations for the 2022 season. Although the porpoising issues sited early on in the season were rectified in the summer, which allowed Hamilton to see some improvements on the track, the Mercedes car still had a hard time holding up to Red Bull and Ferrari cars. Hamilton did manage second-place finishes in France and Hungary, and is coming off of a fifth-place finish in Japan.

Sergio Perez +700

With Verstappen having clinched the driver’s championship, the Constructor’s Championship is next to be determined, and Red Bull has not won the Constructor’s title since 2013. Not only will Perez be fighting for second in the driver’s standings, but he’ll also be keen to lock down the Constructor’s title for Red Bull. We’ve seen Verstappen and Perez finish first-second respectively five times this season, and on two other accounts, Perez finished first (Singapore GP and the Monaco GP). Perez had to fend off a surging Charles Leclerc throughout the entire race in Singapore.

Charles Leclerc +1200

Sitting third in the standings with 252 points, Leclerc has finished in the top three positions in the last four races. He initially finished second in Japan; however, he was penalized for cutting the chicane and was bumped back to third. Leclerc is just one point behind Sergio Perez in the standings and will be battling for the runner up position and for Ferrari to spoil Team Red Bull’s run for the Constructor’s Championship. He could be a bit of a wild card in the US Grand Prix, as he’ll receive a five-spot grid penalty as he tests out a new engine with new modifications to hopefully improve Ferrari’s performance next season.

George Russell +1400

There’s a jump from the top four favourites to George Russell, who is enjoying his first season as a Mercedes driver. This has been quite the season for Russell, as he’s currently two spots ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in the driver standings. Russell has registered six third-place finishes this season and managed a second-place finish at the Dutch GP, where he overtook Hamilton using a soft tyre. Russell is coming off of an eighth-place finish at the Japanese GP.

Canada’s Best Hopes

Canadian F1 fans eager to bet on Canadian drivers have their choice between two Montreal-born drivers: Lance Stroll (+200000) for Aston Martin and Nicholas Latifi (+300000) for Williams. Stroll has enjoyed a more successful career than Latifi overall, with three podium finishes in his career. His best performance this season was a sixth-place finish at the Singapore GP, which had rainy and slippery conditions. He started 11th on the grid and benefitted from key mistakes made by Verstappen and Hamilton.

Latifi is riding out his final season with Williams. His best performance of the season was at the Japanese Grand Prix, where he finished ninth and collected points for the first time this season. At last season’s US Grand Prix, Latifi finished 15th.
